A Clinical Review of Imperforate Anus


Abstract
A clinical review for 21 cases of imperforate anus was made during past 4 years and 8 months period from January 1970 to August 1974 at Dept. of Surgery of Fatima Hospital in Daegu, Korea,
The result obtained as follows;
1. The sex distribution was II males and 10 females with ratio of 1: 1.
2. The interval from birth to patient¢¥s visiting hospital was between the 1st day to the 3rd day in 9 cases, between the 3 rd to the 5 th day in 4 cases, between 2 months to 2 years in 5 cases and more than 2-years in 3 cases.
3. According to Ladd and Gross classification, type I was I case (5%), type III were 3 cases (14%), type III were 16 cases (76%), type lV was 1 case (5%).
4. 8 cases (73%) in 11 cases of male patients and 7 cases (70%) in 10 cases of female patients were associated with fistulas and the ratio to over all cases was 71%. Rectovesical fistulas were found in 3 males and rectoperineal fistulas in 5 males. Rectovaginal fistulas were found in 6 females and rectoperineal fistula in 1 female.
5. The 4 cases of overall 21 cases were associated with other anomalies, i.e, congenital meg-acolon, polydactylia with spina bifida, double uterus and intestinal malrotation.
6. In surgical treatment, 3 cases were treated with perineal repairs only, 16 cases with abdo-minoperineal pull through repairs and in one case only the colostomy was performed.
7. The postoFerative complications included 1 case stomal prolapse of colon I cases of intestinal obstruction, 1 case of evisceration after preliminary colostomy and 3 cases of mild incontinence after abdominoperineal pull through repairs. no mortality was experienced.
